The ACLU Is Backing Illegal Immigrants Who Are Suing For Being Denied Welfare By This State

Maine’s efforts to reform the state’s welfare system has met with opposition from the Left at every turn, and its newest attempts to deny welfare to those who are not legally in the United States is no exception.

Maine has been working to reform its welfare programs, especially after learning that millions of food stamp dollars are being spent outside of the state, including in Florida’s Disney World. From Front Page Magazine:

“According to Department of Health and Human Service records, cash welfare users from Maine have spent $2.8 million outside of the state over the last three years – and not just in neighboring New Hampshire.

According to HHS records, the top recipients of Maine’s welfare cash are: New Hampshire: $1.4 million; Massachusetts: $360,000; Florida: $206,000; and New York: $100,000.”

Last year, the state passed legislation that would require any Able Bodied Adult Without Dependents (ABAWD) to either find a part-time job, or to volunteer for an average of 6 hours a week in order to qualify for food stamps. If the ABAWD is unable to satisfy either of the requirements within 3 months, then the state would deny subsequent renewals or applications for at least a year.

To be clear, an ABAWD is a person who is perfectly capable of working, who does not have a disability, and who is not charged with taking care of any children or incapacitated elderly individuals. These are people who literally do not have an excuse to not find work of some kind.

Since enacting the policy, the state has seen the number of individuals on food stamps drop my more than 80%, a sure sign that the policy is working, yet the Liberals of the state were quick to point out that the legislation was unfair. They claimed that the regulations were unattainable by citizens, and that there just wasn’t enough work or volunteer opportunities to make it effective.

The state has also cracked down on the possibility of illegal immigrants getting access to the American tax-payer funded programs, and as a result, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has filed a lawsuit against the state on behalf of those who are not in the country legally.

Maine’s Department of Health and Human Services has released new regulations regarding General Assistance, and have stipulated that only those who are “legally present” in the United States, or who have applied for asylum, should be granted General Assistance.

In other words, if you are going to get free money from the American tax-payers, one of the requirements is now going to be that your presence in the country is not breaking any laws. The Liberals of the country seem to be doing their very best to ensure that as many people are on the government dole, even if they aren’t citizens.

  1. What demented genius decided to give the mopey that the Federal Government extorted from me and give it to people who's government refuses to take care of? I hope that President Trump will get Mexico to reimburse our social services for supporting their citizens that were dumped on our boarders.
